TOP AGENTS WITH A FAMILY LIFE?

I am 24 with 2 beautiful girls and an equally beautiful wife, but I also have a apssion to be a top agent in my local board....Is it possible to have both a strong family life as well as a thriving RE business?

I am currently number 1 in my office and in the top 7% of all agents in my board, but I want to be number one there too. I am struggling with many things right now and one of them is, how much time to I spend with my family and how much time to I spend working? Both are important, but only one is replacable.

I am looking to grow my business to a level that once I thought was out of reach, and now is feasable, but at what cost? As we watch the Olymics and hear there story of sacrifice to acheive a goal is phenominal but they seem to accept it because of the prize. I hope whoever reads this doesn't think that I am a jerk that neglects his family...that is quite the opposite. I am home often so that my wife can continue her education and dreams, so I am spending time, during the day, with my kids.

I am afraid, however, when I grow my business to a point where I can't get away, what happens then?

Does anyone have any experience with this? I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you in advance.

Matt, as your business grows, you can hire an assistant to handle the paperwork, marketing, etc.  Perhaps hire another agent to work as your Buyer's Agent.

You have a good problem time to hire some people below you to delegate the work and provide you more time with your family you can't do it all.. And don't let you family be the ones making the sacrifice.

I do agree and thank you both. My problem is I have a hard time delegating. This is something that I HAVE to learn.

Thanks

Matt - Find out what you are the best at, listing appointments, working with buyers, etc., focus on that because it will make you the most money and then partner/hire/share someone to do the other things.  Is creating brochures or postcards the best way to spend your time?  Could be, but I bet you could get someone else to master Publisher for a fraction of the money/time that you could be using for listings or family.

As Judi & Anna mentioned, you'll have to let go of some aspects of the business if you ever expect to rise to the top of your market... best of luck!

Thanks for the post Matt,

I'm in a similar situation myself...I too need to delegate more, to free up time.  The problem that I run into is that I worry that my help will bring down the quality of my service. Its not easy.

Matt,

Several years ago found myself in this situation.  Hire an assistant.

Also, try making your business a family affair.  Find things business related to do together.

My granddaughter loves copying, making relocation packages, etc.

Good luck.....family first.

Matt~ I agree with Judi.  You can'y do all by yourself and still have the family life and balance you need and want.  How are you currently handling the workload?

Lisa - I am doing ok right now and I do have anassistant, part time. I am now taking steps to grow my business in much lager bounds and by the end of the year I expect to be overwhelmed.

I know that I will have to hire my assistant full time and I have talked with her about this already, but again, I am not a big delegator. Maybe this will com with time? I don't know.

Thanks to all who have commented.
